Measure at several points

Measure the clear height below the frame, not the height to the mattress. Check the sides and the route the container must follow. Center supports or low crosspieces can divide the space. Record the narrowest point and compare it with the container’s full external height, including a lid or wheels.

Leave room to pull it out

Measure the floor area beside the bed. A container may fit underneath but be difficult to remove because of a nightstand or another piece of furniture. Try a cardboard footprint on the floor. Think about whether you can reach the handle and slide the container out without repeatedly moving heavy furniture.

Choose suitable contents

Use the space for items that do not require constant access. Keep frequently used essentials somewhere more convenient. Choose a container suitable for the contents and the room conditions, and avoid trapping damp items in sealed storage. Follow care instructions for textiles and other stored belongings.

Protect movement and cleaning

A rolling container may behave differently on carpet than on a hard floor. Check its loaded weight and whether the wheels could mark the surface. Leave enough room to clean beneath the bed. Avoid adding bed risers unless they are suitable for the particular bed and used exactly as directed.

Label what is hidden

A short label on the visible end saves you from opening several containers. Group contents by a clear purpose and make a note of seasonal items. If you have to unpack one container to reach another, consider using smaller separate containers instead.
